Got my WJ back from getting a new transmission installed for $2600. Im happy and sad at the same time. It has a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty. Its nice to have overdrive again and smooth/quick shifts....

Geesh... The highest quote I got for an install was $600, and I got a low mileage tranny for $150.

Learned a little somethin' about diff covers today. Tried to change the rear diff fluid only to find that the gasket I bought that fits "ALL" D44 axles doesn't fit mine. A little research showed me that I have a D44a. More research showed all I needed was RTV silicone. Then I found some threads with discussions about the re-useable Lubelocker gaskets and the Hi-Po-Tek D44a cover - neat!
Changed the front fluid without incident. Found a magnetic fill plug installed from the factory, which is cool. Amazing how much better the thing turns with the correct fluid in the diff.
Completed the Dremeling and install of dash 3-1/2" speakers.
Ran wires through the dash for CB mount up on top. Should finish that and spark plugs this afternoon.

His was new and not used like yours. $600 for trans install seems like a decent price. I can't find a low mileage trans anywhere for $150. Was that for your 2WD?

Oh ok that makes sense. I didn't know Chrysler still built those new. Was it rebuilt or factory? Yeah, it was 2wd at AAA. The 4wd were around the same price. It's no doubt I got a steal.

I was referring to new as in rebuilt. No one can get an actual new trans for a WJ anymore.

You know the rules...

How was the install? After seeing the blue interior lights in my wife's Durango I'm thinking that I want a change. Blue won't match my purple WJ, but neither does green!
