What Brand HVAC Components

So now that Fall is here and our daytime highs might just stay out of the triple digits, it time to get the parts to fix my new WJ. The heater core leaked (and was just bypassed on the engine) and the blend doors are broken. So I'll be pulling the dash and replacing the necessary parts.

My question is what brand parts seem to be the best replacements?

For the blend doors and the recirculation door, I am planning on going with the replacements from the Blen Dor Store. His welded aluminum ones seem to be better than the ones from Heater Treater that use set screws.

For the heater core I'm not sure. Is the Mopar one any better than say the one from Spectra Premium (Part # 93069)? They both have a one year warranty. The Mopar one costs more (even with the excellent pricing I get from my local dealer which is dealer cost plus 10%).

And everyone says I should replace the evaporator core also. My A/C works great and the dealer says they rarely have to replace those here in AZ and that if it works there is no real reason to replace it. The Specra Premium (Part # 1054802) one is only like $90.

Any thoughts? What brands did you use? Anyone have any aftermarket ones fail shortly after installation?

Thanks!

Only my O-rings were Four Seasons... Rock Auto thought highly of the other brands, but I have no first hand experience with them except they appeared to be solid parts, not junk.

That is good news. I am doing the heater core when it arrives, and the evaporator also. From what I can tell the the evaporator the only A/C part under the dash? The A/C hasn't worked in a long time, and in WA don't need it more than a couple of weeks a year, and I was given a complete system replacement quote when it stopped working ( maybe $1500). My plan is to replace the evap while the dash is off, (perhaps it will be obviously bad), then get the system charged, tested, diagnose what else I need to replace.

I received my parts- the Rockauto heater core is aluminum. I had the local Napa order in one to compare. The only difference was the tubes on the rockauto are crimped in and adjustable, the Napa ones soldered in place. I asked the counter man about that and he said that many of their lifetime guarantee units also have the movable inlet tubes. I called the dealer and he said he could not guarantee a "brass" looking unit like the one that came out, it seems that replacement supply is consolidating.

I got all of my replacement parts for my heater core and blend doors from rock auto. Was very impressed with the quality and parts. Been almost a year since they were replaced and no issues yet. I bought the parts and paid my mechanic $200 for labor and he even charged the ac too.

I am another successful heater core / evaporator install. I had quotes for $700 to $850, I was in it $180 for parts.

I went Amazon in order to use their free 2-day shipping and acquired:
A/C evaporator Four Seasons #54811 $65.50
Heater core Spectra Premium #93069 $41.07
Mid-Case blend door kit Dorman 902307* $57.32
Recirculating door kits Dorman 902311 $29.39 and 902321 $48.31 (I couldn't determine if I needed one or both)
I also bought 2 StrongArm 4048 gas stops for the hood. Tired of it falling/use of painter pole to hold it up.

$287.87 total shipped

* (I hope this kit comes with the upgraded actuator motor stops - unclear from the descriptions) Hopefully the actuators are still good. I didn't order the O-ring/gasket kit or accumulator/drier. I will do that if they're needed to get the A/C recharged. At present it is snowing and freezing so heat and defrost functions are the immediate goal.

I too use a pole to hold my hood open. My rear hatch needs new shocks as well.
