I was just thinking about this thread and figured I'd add a short update. As mentioned previously, I thought my radiator fan relays were bad. They were fine. On the other hand, the electric fan motor was shot. I actually witnessed sparks when I jumped it to kick the fan on. I imagine that's where my smell was coming from. The fan/motor/shroud are all now replaced. I have yet to smell the burning trash stink since then.

Since you updated, I'll include mine. Put in new freeze plugs to replace the leaky one, I haven't smelled anything either. Guess there is multiple fixes.
