Well I finally figured out what was causing the steam from my engine bay.....no bueño. Looks like a new radiator will be in my very near future. How hard are these bad boys to replace on a 4.0?

Im not sure how hard it is to replace though...

Thanks for link. I was looking at that brand, but thats the cheapest so far. I don't want to go too cheap cause I believe you get what you pay for, yet I also don't want to pay its weight in gold. radiatorbarn.com also had a fairly cheap radiator.

SPI (spectrum premium) seems to have a good rep. No idea on how hard it is on the 4.0, but it shouldn't be too bad. I did my 4.7 w/hydraulic fan in about 5 hrs, yours should be easier as the hydraulic fan is a PITA.

I ended up ordering a crown from the grand cherokee god (kolak)

It took me 4-5 hours. It was the worst thing I've done in a while. Good luck and hopefully the one you buy doesn't come with a hole in it. :badluck: with hydraulic fan on the 4.0

rcwj04 04-23-2013 07:01 AM

I would be beyond pissed if it comes with a hole haha. On a level of 1(oil change to 10(4bt swap) where would you rate this?

adolphhipster 04-23-2013 07:04 AM

Id give it like a 4 or 5. Its not really difficult just very time consuming and is just a dumb design

rcwj04 04-23-2013 07:11 AM

sounds like I have a very fun weekend ahead of me

Here's my thread that shows how to remove the radiator on the 4.0 (along with other, more in-depth stuff): 2004 4.0 I6 Jeep Grand Cherokee Camshaft, Timing Set, and Lifter Replacement

Here's mailforjon's radiator replacement write up: WJ Radiator Replacement Write-Up w/ Pics

Between those two, you should be golden.

How many miles? While you have everything apart, this is a perfect time to replace the water pump if it's old.

adolphhipster 04-23-2013 07:37 AM

Also replace the fan relay behind the headlights

rcwj04 04-23-2013 08:22 AM

well I have a '04 so my fuse is in the fuse box so thats not as much of a pain as the earlier wjs

adolphhipster 04-23-2013 08:24 AM

Oh didn't realize they moved the fan relay. Well lucky you haha
