troubleshoot with me-interior LED upgrade/lights wont shut off
well the title says it all, i just swapped all the bulbs to LEDs (interior) and they wont shut off! even after driving for 10 minutes..
the overhead console map lights i have not swiched however. they are still incandescent bulbs. they also are stuck 'on'
hellpp before my batery drains

overwhelmingg responses lol. so I posted this(3:30pm), had some dinner and went to check on the lights after about 45 minutes. they were off. so i decided to time it. Which was a pain in the *** in a cold garage, ended up like 8 minutes before they shut off! they never were like that before, possibly 30 seconds max.
Does this have to do with the extremely low draw of the bulbs? allowing them to leech the wires for a longer peroid of time? i dont even know if that makes sense, time will tell

I do know that the default shutoff for electrical items is 8 minutes. For example if you leave your door open the interior lights will automatically shut off in 8 minutes. I would side with the low power draw you spoke of but why I have no idea.

Thats good to know. but you know, sometimes i want to/need to be inside and incognito. thats not going to work if my lights stay on for 8 minutes every time. Oh yeah, and what if im driving! there just going to stay on problably. i dont see the 8 minute rule working there.

Others have spoke of using resistors for these leds which i believe counteract your situation. Hopefully one of them will chime in.

i went threw this when did it. you need to add a resistor to drop the load since led dont use allot of voltage.
a 6 ohm is good and can install it in the rear seat or cargo light just by warping it around the 2 post on each end.just need to put it in one spot since all the lights are on the same line of power.
for now can take one of the leds out and put in a old bulb, the light will turn off in a few seconds like normal.
What color u go with?

sweet, it sounds easy... however im not an electrical guru, and a google search for a 6 ohm resistor threw alot of stuff at me. too much. could you link me to one? if i understand your directions. il just double stick tape this resistor somewhere near the, say backseat driverside celing light. il simply take one wire from one end of the resistor, wrap it to the left post. and the wire from the other side of the resistor and tie it to the right post. sounds prety good dude.
on the note about using an old bulb for now, i havent completely swaped ALL the bulbs yet. i still have the 2 map lights in the overhead console as incandescents. and it is not turning off like normal.
as for what i have done, i did blue for the feet/ash/glovebox , cool white for the courtesy door lights/rear seats. i have two cool whites coming for the overhead, and a large 36led PCB style board that i want to instal for the cargo lamp. but if i cant figure out how to get them to go off, im going back to the ****ty stock bulbs

yep, with out seeing the full diagrams of the system, my 1st guess would be that the led does not allow the system to drain the built up charge via the bulb, as its no longer there
a resistor as mentioned is an option, either wise it could just be left as it is now, as not much current is being drawn, and it should not be a concern for battery drain

oh yeah. this other headache. i did a 4th talilight bulb mod to my talilight housings last week. and realized today when i press the brakes, even the brakelights do not intensify. gaah, like wtf. i could have sworn they were working. maybe it was the beers, who knows.

simplest thing is find a radio shack they should still be around and just get one form the draw, they sell then in 5 packs for a few bucks.
do not use tape the resister will heat up and melt the tape.
just have to take one end of the resistor, wrap it to the left post. take the other side of the resistor wrap it tie it to the right post.
but your saying that the 2 map lights in the overhead ar stock so this sounds odd to me.
which light are staying on after you closes the door and lock the jeep?

yea the led will not drain the battery but the wj was not made for that low voltage so when you swap in leds need to kill the load in the line with a resister

is this on both sides or just driver?
quad tail light mod is
ground wire on socket to black wire on jeep harness
Minor wire on socket ( dimmest light ) to black/yellow wire on jeep harness
Major wire on socket ( brightest light ) to white wire on jeep harness

Every single interior bulb (that are conected i ahve two empty at this moment) stays on!
and yeah, the fact the overhead has the origional bulbs kinda disagrees with your suggestions huh straty

yeah exactly like this. although clarify what you mean by dimmest light)&(brightest light).
the socket i have on the drivers side grounds itself out apparently. the socket itself is metal. and the passenger side one has its own ground wire.
maybe i need to inlist some help in pressing the brakes. might make checkin this out easier haha.
