Just changed my plugs today. Not sure what the gripe over #8 is. I had it out in about 15 minutes. Undid the ground cable and the wire harness that goes over it. Removed the PCV valve connection at the oil fill tube and used a 6" extention and a rachett that has a pivot head on it. When I had it out, I was wondering WTF, that was to easy.....

A 2004 thread that lives again....

2000 Laredo 4.7L Selec-Trac. 177K miles, Leather, 245 tires, tow package, crappy CD changer, full size spare, roof cross-rails & sunroof.
Changes & fixes: Rear Addco sway bar & greasble bushings, upgraded headlights, upgraded tail lights, new hood struts (replaced 2X), new rear hatchglass struts, new radiator (replaced 3X), new oil pressure sending unit (replaced 4X), 2 new speed sensors, 2 new door lock actuators, new ignition key cylinder, chrome front tow hooks, Mobil 1 Synthetic 5/30, Purolator Pure One oil filter, EBC slotted & dimpled rotors, EBC Greenstuff pads, new front shocks (replaced 3X), new rear shocks (replaced 2X), new IRO steering stabilizer, new timing chain cover, new water pump, thermostat, new thermostat housing, new high pressure power steering hose, Michelin-X radials, new sunroof assembly, new single-piece lug nuts, new exhaust manifold studs & gasket on driver's side, new Durango alternator. you described the gripe - plus not being able to really see in there without a mirror to make sure you clean it out before pulling the plug up

yeah no biggie, but still not as easy as the front 6 .... but i'll trade the extra effort every 30k miles for the extra power anyday

Exactly, You just need the right tools. I use my snap-on swivel plug socket > 3" extension, swivel > 8" extension.

that's what I do, get the one most likely to aggravate you over with then the rest is just "one on one time" with your engine

did mine a while ago. Greasing up the O ring on the coil sleeve will help in future.
I replaced the stock with Iridium tipped plugs, so unless there is a problem I don't intend taking them out again.
#8 is a beatch, but I hope never to remove it again.

I hope you have a HO.... Unless you do then you arent suppose to use anything other then copper.

You need the correct plugs, otherwise damage can occur.

Also canged the air filter with a lifetime one. Also cleaned the throtle body

HOLY CR@P I did 4 of mine today. Thanks to Oreily's giving me the wrong plugs and having to run back to the store to get the right one's. But mine came right out no problem. When you put them back use dielectric grease. It helps going back in and coming out the next time.

LOL LOL

Tks for the laugh. I always thought I was the only one that had these problems.

Your new plugs appear to stick further into the cylinder than your old ones.
