My 2003 4.0 WJ laredo is at 174000 miles and im only assuming I should service my transfer case since it has yet to be done. Any write up links or recommendations? Thanks in advance...

Remove top fill hole bolt

Remove bottom drain hole bolt

When fluid is done draining, replace bottom drain hole bolt.

Fill with proper fluid. ATF 4 for the select track or dealer only 247 fluid for Quadra drive or track.

Replace top fill hole bolt.

Profit???

The cheapest stuff you can find. ATF 4 is ATF 4.

I must use the dealer only fluid for my Quadra Trac II, but for yours if it specifies atf 4, I would use atf+4 synthetic. Any brand should do, it is a spec to meet

Buy the 247 fluid online...way cheaper.. That is if you need it.

I ordered it off eBay for 10.00/quart. Just for shuts and giggles I asked the local dealership... They wanted almost $30/quart and quoted me $165 to service just my 247 transfer case... Differentials quoted at $185/each... Rediculous rates

Might as well get some decent ATF since you don't have to replace it very often. Plus its only 2 quarts.

ATF 4 is the spec for the fluid, not the general name of it. If it says ATF 4 on the bottle, it is exactly the same whether the bottle costs $2 or $17. Just go to Wal-Mart and pick up the cheappest bottle they have.

All atf+4 is synthetic and its the same formula. If it meets the type 7176 spec then go with it. Walmart sells it under its supertech brand and it works just fine.
