things to look for

okay ive got an oil leak and it looks to be the rear main seal.. but ive read alot of things that most of the time it looks to be the rear main but its not.. the valve cover gasket looks like its leaking from the rear but i cant tell because i cant see back there.. what else should i look for.. (4.0) i think the drain plug is leaking but not sure.. anything else i should look for.. any help would be great.. thanks ahead

Rear main seal, oil pan gasket, could be the valve cover gasket but it wont look like a leaking rear main, that`ll just make a mess around the head area.
But if you need to do the pan gasket, then you may as well do the rear main seal cos its only 4 extra bolts once the pans out. If you do the rear main seal, you need to do the pan gasket anyway cos the pan comes out to do it.

Put a little bit of oil UV dye in your crankcase and get a small UV light. (both of these can be purchased on ebay for like 5 bucks). Degrease your engine and drive around for about 20 minutes.
Shine the UV light on the engine, when it's dark, and you will see where the leak is coming from.
Good luck!

Also..could very well be the oil pressure sensor. This is very easy to replace (and cheap too) and often leak presenting the same issues you have.

You sound like you have a similar leaking problem to my jeep. I figured out mine was from the valve cover gasket, but it driped down the back of the oilpan and even on the starter. At first i thought it was a oil pan gasket but then i traced the leak up to the valve cover. My engine is the 4.2 but I think they are pretty simmilar. Not sure if that helps you but the uv dye sounds like a good idea.
