Strange Oil pressure

Lately after my recent oil change i noticed that when stopping at a stop sign my oil pressure hits zero. When i am driving it is ~45psi. It only drops when stopping in gear. If i had a bad sender would that not just cause it to not work, and if the pump was bad no pressure all the time?

Can you hear excessive noise from the heads when idling? One of the first signs of bad pressure, low oil movement getting up to the heads.

I have the 4.7, but I had the same issue. It was my oil sending unit.

Good luck!

If its not a bad oil pressure switch which is on the side of the block then your camshaft bearings may be worn excessively.

Hmm, interesting. I believe mine is on its way out since sometimes when driving in the city the potholes and stuff will cause my oil pressure gauge to spike at 80 PSI-- which will fix itself after I restart the engine. I highly suspect that it is just the sensor, since there is no change in how the motor responds to throttle or any changes in sound. Other than that, I'm not sure how much oil pressure differs between vehicles, but I idle at 45 PSI and cruise around 60 PSI.
