Stocker Reliability Thread

Hello everyone, I thought this might be an interesting thread idea. If you have a stock Jeep just drop your 2 cents!

How well has your Jeep done while being stock in terms of reliability?

2001 WJ 4.0 Inline 6: 83,000 miles, only the battery and tires have been replaced. The back liftgate no longer works (key word "properly") and the drivers side door key broke which is fixed due to cold weather.

I have a 1997 ZJ, 4.0 L with over 123,000 miles. Tires, battery, and muffler have been replaced. I had to replace the lifters (cheap and easy diy job) on the tailgate as they no longer worked in cold weather. I also recently had to replace the tie rod ends and install a new radiator. Other than that just the routine maintenance.

1993 ZJ, 4.0/42RE. 161,000 miles. At 130,000 the transmission was rebuilt, and went out again at 155,000. I've replaced the transmission, torque converter, transfer case (249->231), resealed the engine, water pump, idler pulley, radiator, steering gear box, steering parts and ball joints, front and rear axles (rear axle blew up, swapped to a set with 3.73's), shocks, brakes, rear brake lines, starter, battery, TPS, IAC, CTS, and quite a few other things.

Overall I have no complaints, it's been pretty good for me. I knew what I was getting into when I bought it.

I own a 1997 ZJ Limited. It has 178,000 miles, It has been in 3 accidents. I have had to rebuild the motor (5.2, spun main #2, cracked the block, new block, pistons, crank, cam, 3 angle valve job.), Rebuilt the rear axle (D44a, bearings, 1 axle), Replaced all control arms, replaced the 249 --> 242, Replaced the fuel pump due to obnoxious check valve leaking. The PO Rebuilt the Trans, had oil pump issues (i believe the source for my spun main), replaced Water pump. Overall its been a beast, I've only been left stranded once (when the main spun). I would drive it anywhere, (with my tools in the back of course ) I plan to drive it well past 250,000 with some transmission work and swapping in an 8.8 for the rear axle.

Just replaced the water pump, checked all the pulleys at that time and found the idler pully I haven't replaced yet was a little loose. May have been the moaning that I was hearing, so I replaced that idler pully too.

anyway, waterpump
idler pulley (2)
valve cover gasket
routine maintenance
fan clutch
radiator
front axle shaft u-joints - then replaced an axle shaft with a cv axle shaft due to warping the tone ring

bought it at 151k seven years ago. Don't know anything that happened prior.

If at first you don't succeed, use more speed.

'04 Grand Cherokee SE 4.7 w/ 105,000 miles

2 water pumps
2 thermostats
2 fuel pumps
1 starter
1 battery
1 belt tensioner
1 pair of heads (warped) and head gaskets
1 set of timing chains (cracked guides)
1 set of spark plugs

AND....
1 annoying rattle from the rear. I think it's a shock...factory units that I will replace soon.

When the heads warped I was all but ready to give up on it. Now that I have it back and it runs like a top I LOVE it again.

Sincerely,
Another bi-polar Jeep owner

ive got a 94 ZJ have about 263000km or 161000 miles on it. Other then a couple leaks, trashed axle CV shafts, and replacing the water pump, and battery; it runs great still
83000 miles, your still in the break-in period

99 WJ Laredo, 77,981 miles. So far I've changed the battery, fan relay sensor, in dash speakers, driver side window mount (my own fault though ), joints, shocks, CPS and now only one hinge on my back window opens. Anybody want to take a bet on what will go next?
