My wife's 99 GC makes a stange squeeling noise when makeing a left turn. I have checked for hoses or something rubbing. Any other ideas? Has anyone had this noise? The Jeep has an extended warrenty so I hope it's something easily fixed or covered under this.
I don't know if the sound I get is the same thing as you wife but...
When I make full left/right turns the tires tend to vibrate and you can actually hear this rather loudly. I asked the dealership about this and they said that they didn't find anything wrong.
If it were doing it in both directions, I'd suspect your pump or pulley, but it sounds like it might possibly be something wrong with the steering gear itself. I'd take it in to the dealer under warranty before it starts becoming something larger than you want to deal with.
There's are technical service bulletins (19-003-01A) & (19-06-00) regarding steering noise. My 99 JGC w/Quadradrive also makes a shudder when making left turns. However, I think mine is more drivetrain related. I called the dealer and they acted like they had never heard of this. Likely story.
I took my 99 GC to the dealer because of the left turn noise and vibration. They said that it is caused by bad bearings in the front differential. He said that they are binding when I turn. It has the Quadradrive system. I hope this fixes it.
