So I took it to a shop.....

To get the door harness repaired. I know I know, I just hate messing with wiring and the door harness is such a tight space, there were some broken pins and I just didn't want to deal with it.

So I took it to a place that is said to be the best local place to take stuff for electrical issues. So the symptoms are, no locks, no windows and nothing coming outta the speaker.

$110.16 later we have locks and windows but still no speaker. The guys cut the rubber cover that goes over the harness (the big black one you see when you open the door, and that keeps mud, sand, water out of the connections). Totally just sliced it open to get to the wires, instead of doing it the right way. And because the pin for the lock circuit was broken, the guy drilled a hole into the door and ran a write through with connections on either side.

So. Now I have no way to take my door off to replace the hinge pin bushing that is shot, and no way to quickly take my doors off to make the tube doors I wanted to as it warms up. AND nothing to keep mud and crud and debris out of the door harness.

What do I do?

The red wire going into the green gromet is the lock wire. He said that the pin was broken and so he did this. If you look at some of the wires in the harness they're still obviously have insulation exposed.

That sucks but that's what you get for being lazy and having someone else work on your Jeep.

you could just duct tape it all up and get some sort of electrical connector that is easily un plugged.

or take it back and tell them that isnt a clean job at all and you want some sort of connector put in.
water proofed and insulated.

im not sure if you can but sometimes you can get replacement pins and connectors the push into the connector box , you need a special screwdriver.

Are you serious about the duct tape?

And yes you definitely can do that, thats what I expected to be done. I expected the harness to be unplugged at both ends, pulled off the jeep, the broken pins/wires replaced and the harness re-installed.

Not trying to be a jerk, but you get what you pay for.

Did you seriously think that they were going to do all of what you just said for $100?

Did you even speak to them about what the game plan was when you dropped the Jeep off?

My dealer, & I usually can think of nothing good about them, repaired mine in a half hour. They soldered the broken wire & 2 others that were weak, covered in shrink wrap etc. That's how DC recommends the repair be done. You were taken by a very sloppy repair facility. Hate to see how they do work you cannot see. I'd never go back there again.

yeah serious about the duct tape, i wouldnt want any water or crap getting inside there, it was insulated in the first place for a reason. at least a temp fix until you get the new rubber boot that they sliced.

So, dropped it off early this morning before they opened on the way to school. The guy said they had to do that because the pins were broken off. I feel like he just clearly has no idea of how the repair should properly be done. I don't think I'm going to risk anymore potential damage done. Just don't know where to take it now, that was the place everyone said to go to for electrical problems.

Also, just to verify that I'm not insane. It is possible to both totally remove this entire harness from the jeep and replace broken pins on the door side of the connection, correct??

Greetings,
Vacuum, that sucks! Yes it is possible to replace individual pins. Pins or spade clips or whatever usually have some sort of locking tab where they fit into the plastic socket. The trick is to depress this tab and pull out the old pin. Can't say without seeing your set up but I've used a thin scribe to slide down between the pin and the plug to release the locking tab.
Peter.
