Sluggish transmission engagement 545RFE

The last few days my '04 WJ has been very sluggish when I put the shifter in Drive. Usually you feel the power go to the wheels, but now it's barely noticeable. There isn't a whole lot of "idle" power either.

Something is very wrong. The engine seems to run fine. However, the other day I had no cruise and no HVAC. I checked under the hood and found one of the vacuum lines off. I put it back on, but it's steadily leaking. However my HVAC and cruise returned to normal. Does the 545RFE use vacuum control at all? Could this be the culprit? If not, I'm going to have to drop the pan and make sure the fluid pickup is in place. It feels like there just isn't any pressure.

It shifts ok, but again, sort of sluggishly.

If the trans was not getting a proper amount of fluid, would the Trans Over Temp light come on?

yes sounds like you need to check your trans fluid it might be low. which would cause slow engagement and not having enough fluid will over heat it BAD HEAT KILLS.
