Wj SIMPLE Memory Mirror Fix

I have read on the forum where memory mirrors 'forgot' their positions.

The solutions were either to take it apart and clean the contacts, or replace it.

Well, I know in electronics that the best way to keep contacts clean is to have a wiping action, so I tried this:

I put my hand flat with my palm on the mirror, then repeatedly moved the mirror through all 4 maximum positions, up, down, in, and out in a rotating motion.

I did this a month ago to both my mirrors, and they have worked perfectly.

Awesome. I will try that tonight. My memory mirrors are spastic as hell. I hit the #2 driver button on my Overland after my wife drove it and the mirrors go all over the place. Pisses me off.

You didn't take it apart? Just rotated while still together? That's simple enough.

Nope - did not take it apart. Rotated the mirror and then cleaned off my handprint......

Stupid question for a little clarification - did you move the mirror with your hand or did you use the motor to move it and just apply pressure to the mirror?

Just move it with your hand; that moves the contacts over the position plate, and repeated movement will clean off the dirty sections...

That will go in my book of things to do. My driver side mirror works just fine, but my passenger mirror will move to memory seat 2 but not one.

Ditto. Driver's side on mine has to be adjusted each time we drive it. Resets too low in position.

Interesting, with engine off just put hand palm on mirror and move it up and down and to both sides?

I wonder that it doesnt' mess up some gears or something on it.

If cleaning the contacts by motion is what is needed, wont it clean by moving it with the electric motor work as well? I do worry about breaking it... haven't tried it yet....

i have a problem where my driver side mirror goes down and to the right over the course of the night... i think its not a factory mirror because it doesnt heat up in the winter and has different stickers...would this help?

I Actually took mine completly apart cleaned all the contacts and the memory function only fixed itself for 6 months and it was back to losing its position everytime I unlocked the Jeep. I've been dealing with it because taking apart the mirror is a PITA with all of the gears.

I will have to try this.

I just turned the mirror with memory function off. No need to reset the mirror once it's in the right place for me.

I did move the mirror around. It did not seem to restrict my movements of it manually w/o electric motor. Still works. I'll see if it solved my memory situation or not in a few days. Might actually work!

I guess you could do it with the motors, but would take a long time.

Moving the mirror manually does not seem to bother it; at least I do not hear gear teeth clicking like on GM mirrors.

I did it to both of mine, and so far, has worked like a champ.

Even if I have to do it again in a month or two, it beats disassembly!!
