I have three JGC's ('98, '02 & '04), and I use Pennzoil High Mileage 10w30, with a FRAM xtra-guard filter, changing oil every 6-8K, and have had no oil related issues. I've found Wal-Mart has the best prices for the oil & filter.

Rotella is tried and proven as top notch in the 4.0, Mobil hasn't worked out near as well in that engine. This is based on review of countless UOA's (used oil analysis).

All you "need" for the 4.0 is a good 10w30. You can run thicker but you're not gaining anything but it won't hurt anything either, other the mpg by a tiny amount.

Rotella 10w30 is a very thick 30 grade it's nearly a 40 grade anyway and therefore it's a top choice and just about perfect for the 4.0.
