Replacement Limited Fender

I had a senior moment over the weekend and screwed up my 2000 Limited drivers fender. It's OK but the jeep is a very nice unit. I'd like to get a replacement fender and have it painted to match. Short of going to the dealership and paying too much has anyone had any good experience with an aftermarket that has a reasonable cost.

They should be all over the inter net, E-Bay, and Junkyards etc. Do a on line search.

There several companies on ebay that fenders painted to your color. I just put in "fender painted". I found one under "NEW Painted To Match - Passengers Front Fender for 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee".
I think it was about $200.00. Don't know how good they are.

Thanks and yes I've checked out ebay and rock auto. Prices range from $36 to above $300. I was just trying to find out if anyone had bought an aftermarket fender and what their fitting experience was. I do like the looks of the painted ones. I believe that would be cheaper than buying one and the cost to get a local body shop to paint it.

BobT- Is that $200 with shipping?
khodgens- Did you price a body shop to fix it? What did you do to it to mess yours up?

It was $203.98 with free shipping. If you go on ebay and do a search for "NEW Painted To Match - Passengers Front Fender for 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee". You should see it. Again I have no experience with this seller. Just what I found on ebay.

This is good info. Thanks. I bought my WJ with a dented fender thinking since the dent was small , it wouldn't cost much to get it repaired. All the shops are quoting over $600 since, the real labor is in prepping the fender for paint. If I can get a painted fender for 200 bucks , it will save me a bunch. Kinda skittish about buying a painted fender , unseen until it gets here though. But something to look into that I haven't thought about.

Thanks for all the info. I'll probably go with the painted fender from ebay. What happened: I was backing thru a gate, stopped to check everything out and forgot to put it in park. It kept going back and caught the door on the gate post, which stopped it. Trust me when I say it's no fun getting old!

last weekend I installed new aftermarket left fender from ebay (i think around $65 shipped). Hit that black primer with wet 400 sandpaper and put 2 - 3 coats of primer, especially take care of the corners. Bought my spray can paint from automotive touch up, because my jeep color is pub, woodland brown metallic and I didn't find this color locally. Painted 2 - 3 coats and later 2 - 3 coats of clear coat. Fender looks good 90% like from factory. Good enough for me.
I had quite hard time installing it. Need to remove few bolts and I think I broke 2 bolts and craftsman torx bit, but you can use 10mm deep sockets and 10mm open wrench on those too. Also broke all clips while removing rockers molding. Need to buy new.
Be careful with the hood. Need support before opening 2 bolts which holds the hood.
Basically I spend around $150 for fender/primer (2cans),paint (2 cans), clear coat (2 cans), variety of sand paper, some solution . Not big saving over painted to match ebay fender, but for me was important to learn something new and by doing it myself I invested all the money to experience.
Also had enough paint/clearcoat left to paint right doors and rear wheel arc.

Thanks for the good advice on painting it. If I had more room and a suitable compressor I'd probably do it myself but I don't. I removed the old fender straightened it and reinstalled it. It's fine for now but I will replace it later.

Could you tell any difference in size, weight appearance of the after market fender? Can you post photo's of your fender? I have never had any luck with rattle can paint jobs.

I would say that spray cans from automotive touch up was really good quality and had good nozzles. But I have limited experience anyway.
Like you see I did bad job aligning that fender, but I guess I will be back one day and readjust. I'd say size and weight were the same, but I cannot tell for sure, because my fender was rusted out and I guess more light

Also my right doors had big dents and rusted (bought this way) , so I did some repair on those too. Looks better than before...
