So the starter went out on the WJ. No warning, no tapping to get it to start again, just dead. So under the car I go with one tire up on a ramp so I can get underneath. Not much room but what ya gonna do right? The bottom bolt wouldn't budge, but the top one loosened easily. Ok, not enough room for me to use a breaker bar so I tried the following:
1. Hit it with PB Blaster. didn't work.
2. Got out the 3/8" impact wrench. Didn't work.
3. Got out the 1/2" impact wrench. Still nutt'n.
4. Pulled out the Propane wrench. Dang thing soaked up the heat so fast I could barely get it warm. Didn't work.
5. Ok. Deep breath, cross the fingers and toes that I don't destroy the threads and I pull out the 3/4" impact wrench.
6. Pick up the shattered pieces of the "normal" universal joint I had been using and make my lazy *** find the IMPACT universal joint.
7. Try again with the correct equipment.
That bolt came out so fast it was out before I could take my finger off the trigger. I was sure I had snapped the bolt, but no, everything was good!
Just once I'd like a routine repair on this thing. :grin2:
