Remove timing gear on crankshaft?

A there a key holding it in, or is it just held on tight from sludge etc? The top camshaft gear came right off but I don't want to force the lower gear if it is being held on with a key.

It should slip right off...

It's not budging to come off. Would I be better off fighting it to get if off to put on the new gear, or just leave it and only replace the top gear and the chain? My gut tells me fix the issue but I'm making no progress with it.

I replaced both mine. I imagine you'll have a tough time replacing the chain without moving that sprocket. Maybe try some penetrating oil?

It finally gave. Thanks for helping me stick with it. I've had penetrating oil soaking on it for over an hour so that may have helped it finally work loose.

Excellent!
