Wj Remanufactured 4.0L recommendation?

Time to look at replacing a 4.0L inline six with 183k miles on it. Have found a bunch of places that sell remanufactured motors but since I have never bought one I was hoping I could get some recommendations. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

dont buy from pro-formance engine. My lifters went bad in the engine i purchased from them, so i gave them a call and long story short i was 8 hours out of my warranty and they basically told me to hit the road.

Is yours running bad? Mine went to 250K. Drive it til it pukes and take the extra time to save for a stroker or at least a custom build to get the benefit of the earlier, stronger pistons.

X2. If there's nothing wrong keep driving it. I'm about 500 miles from 200K and I'm still running strong.

I purchased a remaned motor last year for $1500 and that was shipped to my front door on a crate. They even covered the cost the ship back my bad motor and refunded the $300 core fee, which surprised me since the motor had a huge crack in the #1 piston wall. I looked at the stroker first but it was another $900 and they couldn't guarantee me that it would pass smog here in Cali. That was a must. The co. I used was APS (advanced powertrain solutions) out of Addison TX. A few people referred me to them for their good quality work, low prices, and great warranty (3 year 100,000 mile) I looked everywhere and couldn't find a better deal. They put me in contact with a local vendor so I had someone I could personally go in and talk to if I had any issues but have had none yet.

Their local supplier that I went through is LKQ. Their number is (866) 519-7145. They are not the builder just a parts supplier, but their pricing was better then if I had ordered directly from the engine builder. The guy I did all my ordering through was Trevor Bishop. Really nice guy and seemed to be quite knowledgable. Not sure if he still works their but you can try. Good luck.

one more thing. When re-reading my original post I realized I may have been unclear. The engine cost me $1500. That included shipping. The $300 core fee was added on top of that and refunded as soon as they got my old motor back. I completely stripped it down to just the block and head, keeping the valve cover, oil pan, accesories, manifold, oil pump, timing cover, etc. They still refunded the entire $300 which left my final bill at $1500. I hope that was more clear.

1500 shipped is still awesome with a 100,000 mile warranty. Especially if they offer the same warranty with the stroker.

I don't remember the warranty facts on the stroker. I just know that the standard remaned motor was a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty.

A stroker here, is referring to a hybrid of a jeep 4.0 and the older 4.2.

Thanks for the replies! Yes, motor has developed a pretty loud tapping. Had it in the shop and they are saying that it is internal, not sure if it is upper or lower. Don't have the tools to rebuild myself and really can't do without the truck for too long. With 182 miles, I figured it was better to by remanufactured than just throw a band aid on it.

There are all different sizes. 4.2, 4.5, 4.7. It just depends on how much you bore it and what stroke you choose. The engine is the same as the normal 4.0, just the rods are longer (stroked) and the cylinders are machined larger (bored). If you do a search there is all kinds of information on the topic.
