Rear upper control arm bushing issue

My friend has a 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo V8 with a 2" BB and 30" tires

He installed new rear upper control arm bushings about 10k ago and today found them bad again.

He is thinking maybe he installed them wrong??

My question is, is there a orientation to the bushing? Or is it possible the BB has anything to do with it?

Anyone know of a better bushing or solution?

Did he upgrade his shocks too (longer) or is he using the originals with that 2" BB?

Rear Upper Control Arm Bushings

I'm the friend with the bushing issues. I just replaced with new bushing on the upper rear. I set the orientation correct so that the bushings flex like they are supposed to, but stay sturdy laterally as to keep the rear axle from moving. There is still a ton of slop in the rear end. If I make a sharp jerked turn on the highway the front turns in the direction I want, and it seems like the rear lags. Once the rear catches up I end up having over-steered and need to adjust. It is a lateral slop, not body roll. The bushings move all over the place as I am under there. I have to wonder what numb nut designed this. Seems like Jeep is trying to do three jobs with one bar. Any suggestions? I've been chasing steering problems on this for the longest time and I'm ready to drive it off a cliff.

Did you replace the upper Control Arm ball joint? It'll have slop if that isn't in good shape.

I am thoroughly confused. You can see my Bushing and Ball joint install on my WJ build thread. I am not aware that there is any particular orientation of the bushings as far as any particular lateral movement on the upper control arm. Solid rubber bushings with a metal sleeve for the bolt. If you are getting much movement something is really messed up. Are you certain you have the right bushings? They should look like the two at the top of this picture.

You also have to torque the bolts pretty tight. But I would think you still shouldn't be getting much play if you have them in there with any reasonable tightness.

In the picture in the above post the one on the left would be facing up. If you get under the jeep and look up at the bottom you should see what looks like the bushing on the right. Hope that makes sense. I'm pretty sure they need to be torqued to 74 ft-lbs but check to make sure.
