Rear hatch dent

My rear hatch has a dent in it above and to the passenger side of the lic plate indention. And I've noticed a bunch of other wj's with the same dent what gives ? Is it a defect or just a popular spot to dent the ole jeep

I guess to be fair it doesn't actually matter on my particular jeep as the body sees lots of trail useage

It's from garage doors. When you open the hatch too fast it hits. Haha

I have this too. I had a body shop guy tell me it's from pushing the hatch shut right at that plastic part ( above the license plate) it deforms the metal at the corners. Made sense to me.

This makes a lot more sense than the garage door part. I've seen a few of these threads come up before and everyone seemed to believe it came from people closing their hatch improperly.
