Thanks in advance. 2004 JGC 4.7 non-ho quadratrac 2 nv247. Rear drive shaft has a harmonic balancer/damper. Pic of a similar one for reference. I brought the drive shaft to someone to have new ujoints put on. I had marked the shaft prior to removal. Received the shaft back, there was PB or similar spray on it and my marks were hard to see, but I do believe the balancer was spun 180. I cannot say for sure. But, now I have a wicked vibration around 35mph. No weights appear to be missing. So, the questions are...one, is the shaft balanced on its own or with the balancer? Thinking if the balancer was spun 180 the weighting and balance would now be off. Two, could spinning the balancer 180, but having the rest of the shaft aligned right to the rear diff, would that cause a phase issue because the yoke at the transfer case is 180 off?
Never had this problem with a WJ but with other vehicles, just always took to a reputable driveline shop and had them balance it all as one unit. They'll weld weights on. You're better off doing this than driving yourself crazy disassembling/reassembling trying different things.
Well, from the looks of the picture your rear pinion angle does not look right. Also I see that you have aftermarket rear lower control arms, are they adjustable?
Most likely you are right if you had no issues before. Pull the yoke off and flip it 180 and your vibration should go away. Or take it back and have them do it.
I have gremlins and ghosts. Pulled the shaft, had it checked, perfectly balanced. Put it on the lift the other night. Found a faint noise in the transfer case, loose chain...nothing crazy. One rear caliper walking a bit. Redid the caliper. Drove the Jeep that night and next day and no noise...but, noise wasn't all the time anyway...still had a vibe...so, was giving time to see. That same day, new noise...Front passenger wheel hub. Cant win. So, tonight, both front hubs are getting done, front brakes/rotors and motor mounts. Then tomorrow is a new day for something to go wrong.
