Question Rattling noise behind dashboard!!! Help!!!

Hi guys!!

Once again I need your help! This is a new thread on an old issue. My 04 WJ has a rattling noise in the dashboard area. More specifically I've pinned it to the area behind the glove box area, sounds kinda metallic and is present when going over bumps. Tried removing the glove box door, but couldn't do it, to try to access the rear of the dashboard.

While checking around I found out that the cover for the tweeters on the dashboard was a little loose, is there something beneath it that could be loose and causing that rattling noise.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Max

Today I managed to roll down the glove box as indicated in the FSM. I will drive without tomorrow to see if it has some effect on the noise. Will keep you posted!!

Thanx GODMODEX

mine seems to be coming from the area of the blend door, in fact I think I can pinpoint the motor that control's whatever is rattling, but not why it rattles. all my climate control works perfect

is your recirc door in place? take your glove box out and see if there is anything there that is loose. try pressing the recirc button to see if you have any movement behind glove box.

I would definitely check for a loose/broken recirc door. They're fairly common, and Jeep has since redesigned all the components for the HVAC housing.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll have some time this weekend to get into it and see whats going on. The recirculate works, I don't know if that matters - but i'll check it out.

well, this morning as i drove to work I turned on/off the recirc, up/down the heat blend & fan, and all while driving on a flat road. Still sounds like someone is playing drums with a pen behind my glove box. no change regardless of any of these settings. Just from the fact that I've got this noise from basic road vibrations and no bumps I think I can eliminate the shocks. Thoughts?

I'll open this thing up in the morning and see what I find.

Did you go under the fender and feel for play at the upper shock isolator.
You need to give the shock a firm push/pull.If it moves, even slightly you need to redo the isolators.
The sound you are explaining is exactly what i experienced.

wow - the shock moves like crazy! I think i'll replace these front isolators right away and see if that doesn't fix it. Thanks for the tip, would have never guessed that. now...where do i get these parts? I don't see them sold without shocks.
