Up to the point when the fuel is low enough that the junk in the bottom of the tank goes into the screen etc. Then it does indeed block it. When the fuel level is higher, there is a LOT less chance of tank debris from getting sucked into the fuel pump.

Oh wow I hate to say it but there was an occasion where I ran completely out of gas about half a mile from a gas station lol. Also, everytime I fill up it's usually on E or below it lol. Fuel filter change in my future??? lol. Also, what's a good way to clear the engine of all that crap that it's sucked in?

when your fuel light comes on, fill up and record how many gallons it takes to fill up say for example 18 gallons, then subtract that from the total tank capacity found in your owners manual say for example it is 22 gallons, that means when the light comes on there would be 4 gallons left in the tank in our example, then multiply that by your gas mileage say for example 15mpg X 4 Gal left when light on = 60 miles until you run out of gas
