Question about Jeep lifts

Hey whats up guys?

I just got a 2002 Overland (leftover stock; good deal too!) and I want to make it into an off road machine. The first thing I want to do is add a lift. What exactly do I need to know about adding a lift? what is the best of whatever i need to buy? Is there a whole package thing where I buy the lift with the upgraded tires or what? and where is the best place in my area (I am in New York) to get all this stuff done? oh yea and how much would all of this cost?

Thanks,

Paul

ohh so you got an overland? thats cool, my dad has one and I love the high output v-8, and the seats are great too. Unfourtionatly I haven't done any modifications to my grand cherokee 94 cause I'll probably get a new car within a few years. Good luck though.

go to www.4wheelpartsmemphis.com call the number and ask for Nick. he'll set you up. i got a 3" skyjacker lift for just under $600..... that's a pretty good price. 4 coil spring + 4 nitro shocks (nitrogen filled - not hydraulic) + brackets + 4 lower arms. good kit

you could try RMS offroad in Bohemia or The Truck Shop in Sayville. Both are real good shops that can help you out.

Wherever you go make sure the shop understands they are dealing with a WJ, not a ZJ. There are fewer options for the WJ style, as far as lifts go, and the components usually cost twice as much as for a ZJ.

There's at least 3 (Teraflex, Anthony's, DayStar) budget boosts (BB) for up to +2". These are easy enough for you to install and cost between $100 and $200 (with shipping costs) depending on who you get it from and what other little parts are included. There's a TeraFlex +4" kit with new springs, adjustable control arms and other parts. Other companies have had kits on the drawing boards, but none delivered yet. Beyond that, there's custom lifts with long-arms, springs, new steering components, etc.

General rule of thumb is - the higher you go, the more it'll cost. That's because more components need to be replaced.

Good luck and keep researching. Buy everything at once and go to it.

Finally, don't forget tow-hooks and armor, if the Overland didn't come with any.

WJ is designation for Grand Cherokee staring in 1999. A ZJ designation is for Grand Cherokee 1998 and prior. Yours is a WJ. Read more at WJ Info

Thanks, Wyoming.

I didn't realize Rockcrawler stuff was available, too. Post your results when you're done with your project.
