Its not common for a power steering pump to fail. How many miles on your unit?

Is there any other issues? Coolant loss, hard starts, engine temp?

Went through this with mine. Idler pulley replaced as well as the tensioner pulley. It helped quiet it, but my alt still makes noise. It's been that way for 2yrs and haven't had an issue.

It has to be your Alternator or Water pump.

I'll see if the shorter belt I got allows me to bypass them one at a time. I wish it was a constant noise it would be so much easier to diagnose.

I failed to mention I had a mechanical fan. I took it off in preparation to change out the water pump and the noise is gone.
