Power Steering headache
2004 grand cherokee wj 4.0L v6 Factory power steering was quiet as a mouse started making noise found metal shavings in the pump. Replaced it with a reman bleed the lines flushed it no problem it was still whining. took it to my mechanic he said it was a bad aftermarket pump which is not uncommon said rebuilds are junk pumps.

So have my seconds pump in here a little better quality flushed it with over 2 gallons of ps fluid mopar approved this new pump no air still whines like hell i was told all the remans are junk and that its a good idea to just buy a oem power steering unit in will solve the problem and be quiet?

My question is there an aftermarket high performance ps pump i can get that will be better and quiet?

Thanks queys i really need help with this one like i said coming from a 2004 silverado with a power steering pump which was quiet as a mouse.

Even the oem pump is noisier than most unfortuneatly. Since we cant hear it, i recommend sitting in a buddy/ neighbors or even just playing the car shopping game and test driving a used one to listen to it.

Drain out part of your Power Steering fluid, Several ounces and add some Automatic transmission fluid to fill it back up.
This will keep the fluid from foaming which causes the noise you are most likley hearing.

I've always read to use MS5931 power steering fluid only. Make sure that's what it's filled with. Also have someone turn the Jeep on and with it still in park turn the wheel lock to lock. Make sure the low pressure and high pressure hoses aren't contacting each other. You can swivel them apart to create a gap. Binding up like that can cause the pump whine.

Also, you have a 4.0L inline 6, not V6

Had mine replaced a few months ago and it does the same thing. Insanely loud on cold starts too.

Buy Mopar or pull one from the Junk Yard. It will wine for a couple days after bleeding.

The time now is 07:57 AM.
