Hey I'm digging this thread, thanks, all.

I want a daily driver with as much clearance as possible, but with a spare in the trunk-well.
If max wheelwell size in a 17" rim is *245/70/17, what is max tire size for 16" rims? Thanks.

265/70/16 will fit but the lid won't sit flush.

2.5/2" fat bobs coil springs, 3/4" front spacer, 245/75/16 treadwright warden a/t's (30.7" diameter 9.8" width)..this size just did squeeze into my wheel well, the cover sticks up about 1 inch or so

29 inch tire iirc is the largest size that fits flush like OEM.

I had 255/70/16's with the cover slightly ajar and my current 245/75/16's fit flush provided I make sure none of the other ropes, straps, whateverr other junk I store in there is not under the tire when I put it back in there. I think side lugs also come into play with regards to what you can fit in as well. The bigger they are, the smaller the tire you can fit.

My 235/70/17 sits flush in the spare well.

235/70 is quite a bit smaller than a 245/75, so I imagine yours would fit...

Yeah, mine are 3/4" narrower than the 245/75/16. However it is a 30" tire, and the other poster I quoted said the biggest was a 29" tire.

I can tell you though that if my tire was any taller it would not fit in the well at all, if it was fully inflated.

Here's a great tire size conversion site..

245 75 16 BFG KM2 on 16X8 Soft 8 with 2 in Skyjacker BB. The package fits in the spare well, but it is extremely tight. The lid is flush though.
