A positive spin on the gas mileage thread...

I'm so sorry for taking up thread space for this.

I checked my mileage today. It's the first time I've ever cared enough to do it in all the time I've owned my WJ. All of the miles are in town, 40mph and lower, lots of idling at lights and using my A/C.

16.66mpg! :2thumbsup:

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Stock rebuilt engine. Just Rotella T5 10W30 and a Wix air filter. 245/70/16 road tires, 3.55 gears.

A beer for all this fine Friday night

Ive been getting 16.5-17mpg with my stock 4.0L Selec-Trac transfer case with mixed driving. By mixed driving i mean 7miles of 65mph with 3 stoplights. Then town driving with lots of idling and stop lights all under 40mpg. My jeep has the tow package and 3.73gears. Jeep is a 2000 Lorado. I must be lucky I guess.

Bam-Bam 09-13-2013 11:34 PM

I must have a light foot, I'm getting 18.5 mpg on my trek to work, it's mostly highway though, 15 miles highway 3-4 city ish I usually go about 60-65 but once and a while Ill run along at 80

2000 lorado 4.0 select track all stock

COl: how do you know you have 3.73 gears? Just got my WJ a few weeks ago, it has a hitch but I'm not sure if it had the tow package from new!

Build sheet, take the cover off, or count driveshaft revolutions compared to tire revolutions.

COL 09-14-2013 12:15 AM

That is what the Tag on my rear end indicates. You can also request a build sheet from the dealership and that will tell you. If you have a factory tow hitch it will be nicely tucked up to the bumper and the bumper will be cut around it. The Factory tow package for our I-6 WJ Jeeps includes 3.73gears, 75w-140 synthetic gear lube, factory 7 pin trailer wiring harness, Transmission cooler, electric and clutch fan, hitch and fitted bumper. I usually run 18-22 mpg on the highway

That's not magic...pretty much every regular car on earth gets better gas mileage on the highway. I've never checked but my EVIC was right on with my calculation for this tank, and previously I've seen about 24 on the highway with the evic. Sometime when I take a trip I'll check it. My Jeep doesn't leave Topeka often so I don't usually get a chance to check that. That and I usually don't have enough money from each pay check to fill up twice in one one-week period!

I'm pretty happy with it though. I'd been telling people it was 14-15 but almost 17 is MUCH better!

wjjeepman34 09-14-2013 01:00 PM

Annnddd here comes the stories about how peoples jeeps are getting better gas mileage than when these jeeps were brand new! Waiting for all the "I drive stop and go rush hour traffic and get 23 mpg" guys!

Me, I drive 62 miles round trip to work and back. roughly 40 miles of 70mph highway, roughly 14 miles of 55 mph, and roughly 8 miles of 30-40 mph city with a few lights. I average 15 mpg's, used to be 16 before the lift. This is over the course of YEARS, and I keep up on my maintenance. All my mileage is HAND CALCULATED, my EVIC shows 17.7 so obviously thats way off.

Yeah...darn me for starting this thread.. I was just happy with it. I know it's not "amazing" but I thought it was worse, so I was pleasantly surprised.

All mileage should be hand calculated. I just happened to notice that this particular time my EVIC was actually only of by .1, so not bad. I don't rely on it anyway.

Oh I don't mind the thread, I never mind any threads even ones that are repeated a half a million times. I have the ability to scroll past a thread if I don't want to read it....unlike some people around here!

Threads like these are good in my book, I like to see what people are getting. The problem is, it brings out all the liars in the world that think they will get a gold star because they get better gas mileage than everyone else. So then all of sudden people are getting 21, 22, 23+ mpgs.....

Or they are just WAY to faithful in their EVIC!

Side note: Your gas mileage is the devil! (16.66)

Ravie 09-14-2013 03:51 PM

It'll be interesting to see how it changes after 31's and 3.73's are swapped on. (Not til next year when I have gobs of money...)

Oh, and the city I live in... All zip codes start with 666. Haha

Bam-Bam 09-15-2013 08:19 PM

Are you sure it's not magic ???

It's a bird

265/70R17 4" Lift Kit

Awful truth, I am getting between 12 and 13mpg in the city, city has up and down hills, several stops, so not enough highways/freeways.

On the road I get 16mpg.

DO not know how I ran before liting it as I did not paid attention, really I don't care if I get what other get, as long as my jeep keeps running and making me happy off road!

mikeyc1821 09-18-2013 11:57 AM

on my day to day commute about 50% driving at 50mph and the other is stop and go, I avg 16.5 calculated..

on the highway at 65 over the coarse of a full tank on several trips I have repeatedly avg 19.2 to 20.1 mpg calculated

4.0 32 in tires, 3.73 ratio with quadra drive...

my buddys dub, with 4.0 3.73 also on 32 in A/T tires and select track has never seen over 16 and that was on the same highway trips with me (going camping)

I would also like to add that when I reset my evic when I fill up and hit the highway and drive my 340ish miles till the fuel light comes on, the evic shows about .5 mpg off from what I actually calculate... and it normally shows better...

I have also figured out that with my tires when the jeep says I have driven 1 mile, I have actually gone about 1 mile and 1 tenth.. so 300 miles on the jeep display is actually 330 miles
