Overheating issues/engine coolant noises

so lately my 02 wj i6 has been overheating once and while and the dash tells me to check gauges. After the engine overheats and the light comes on i would shut off the car and a gurgling/bubbling noise happens under the hood, what seems to be coming from the engine coolant? any ideas?

Are you low on coolant? Turn your AC on when you first start your Jeep and if your e-fan doesn't turn on I'd look at replacing the relay.

Gurgling or bubbling noise would most likely be the coolant boiling. I would limit driving of your jeep until you can get this problem fixed. You need to make sure you have the proper amount of coolant, your water pump is working, and that your cooling fan is working properly.

my coolant is about a quarter to almost half empty. i will try to pick some up and refill but this issue doesn't happen often maybe once a week or every other.

Well sir you have leak. Find it and fix it before you cause lotsa damage. Check the oil cap for a milky residue.
