I don't think the tensioners use oil pressure. They're just spring loaded, but I've seen chains that were so worn that the tensioners were ratchet all the way out and not doing much in the way of adding tension.

Im gonna start with the head first to get it running just to see or hear if the main or rod bearings are damaged. If I have to pull the engine to replace the bearings or grind the crank or whatever, then I look forward to it.

I always thought the chain tensioners used oil pressure since when you collapse them in a vise, oil squirts out of them. I could be wrong... again.

Do yourself a favor and check your bearings ... I say this because my timing system and heads looked brand new. Bearings? Not so much ...

I pulled the engine and checked the main and rod bearings. They still look brand new. I replaced the bent valves. Got the engine back together. Rotated the engine about 8 times. No binding or anything. Will start putting the engine back in tomorrow. Will take me a couple days.I'll report back when i get the jeep started .

Thank yourself in a few months that you checked the bearings. The peace of mind it will buy you is priceless.

Got the jeep running today. Sounds really good. Have a few things to button up before I take her for a drive.
