I just had a smoke test done on mine. Cost was $30. He also told me if I think I fixed it and the code comes back, to take it back into him and he would do the smoke test again for me for no charge. First time I even took my Jeep to that shop. I think Ill go back lol.
BTW, your charcoal canister and vacuum lines are not behind the drivers rear wheel in your 2000. They moved them to that location in 02. Yours are in the engine bay drivers side, near the firewall. I wouldn't doubt there be a combination of things contributing. Get the smoke test done. If anything else, it will be good peace of mind for you. Also, what brand TPS did you use?

update- just disconnected the battery cables, held them together for 30 seconds, and let it sit disconnected for about 5 min. started it up, normal. put it in drive, normal. drove down the road and shifted in to all gears, normal. brought it back to the house and put it in park where it would normally shoot up to 1300, sat perfectly at 500. i hope to god this isnt just luck! thanks alot everyone for your info

Awesome. It may be like mine. The codes were not cleared causing it to throw fits. Hopefully that takes care of it.

Most likely it will come back. All you did was reset the pcm but if you have a faulty tps, resetting the pcm will force everything to work as fresh out of the factory until it relearns the thresholds of the new, faulty tps. Duralast sensors are crap when it comes to jeeps.

ezflip- if it comes back you think i should swap the tps with a mopar one rather than getting a smoke test for a vacuum leak?

Yes, but I wouldn't discount a vacuum leak just yet either. Give it about 3-4 days, that's usually how long it takes to learn and start throwing codes again. Hopefully it doesn't come back for you.

I did not read the whole thread so bare with me if this is posted already.
Sounds to me like its the IAC. I have had similiar issues in the past due to failed/failing IACs. Sometimes the reving can be attributed to a failed TPS but you have replaced that already. The ECM uses input from at least four or more sources to control the idle: IAC, MAP, TPS, and the bank 1 O2 sensor.
Clean the throttle body, IAC, and MAP. I would also check the voltage at each sensor for proper functionality. This process is discussed in the Haynes manual. you will need a multimeter. remove the TB to clean properly and buy a new gasket for $3, this will ensure you do not have a vacuum leak.

The iac can cause the idle issues, but generally will not cause shifting issues. The tps can cause every issue noted. That's not to say that the iac doesn't need to be cleaned or replaced, though.
