Oil top up

i'm topping up my jeep Grand cherokee 2000 4.0ltr petrol with oil. my local garage who service it have given me 10-40 synthetic but for some reason i thought it was synthetic I needed for it. Is it synthetic or semi i should use. dont want to top up with the wrong type.
