oil sending switch

Im wondering were the oil sending switch is on a 2000 grand cherokee laredo 4.0. Do i have to put any tape on the threads of the new one before installing. Im pretty shore this is broke due to the fact is when i start it the needle climbs to 80 psi and this started all of a sudden on idle it hits 40-45 but as i acellerat it runs up to 80. Am i right to think this is defective. Truck has 155,000 and burns no oil. Just leaks a tiny bit..

to find oil sender, follow transmission dip stick tube down the side of engine and right before it goes off into the transmission area and above the oil filter you'll see a wire and sensor that goes into side of engine. No tape, most come with thread compound on them. Just take old one out and put new one in. Don't buy autozone...it has no warranty, Oreilly's has a lifetime warranty so if it goes out again at least you can take it back

Looks like the same one they sell at any of the big box stores like AutoZone or Oreilly's, but it only has a 1 year warrnty...Oreilly's has lifetime...and if you go with mopar, you'll more than likely get at least the same mileage out of one of theirs.
