my gauge was fine when I first started my car but after about 4 or 5 min of driving it would go to 0 and the check gauges light would come on. I checked my unit and it was leaking out of the top and onto the crank sensor cable so by default I had to replace that as well.

I got mine at autozone for 18 dollars or so I think been fine for a few months now

yep, same here, bought a cheap one and pressure gauge on dash pinned forward

Would the oil pressure sending unit cause the oil gauge to fluctuate while running?

Yes, I'd be driving down the street. All of a sudden I would hear a chime, check engine light would come on, and oil pressure would mark zero. Really scared me until I read this thread. I think I sold the car before I fixed the issue though.
