Wj OEM Copper Plugs, I'm a believer!

Just tuned up my 2004 GC, WJ, Laredo 4X4. I used the NGK OEM copper plugs. The last time I tuned it up was 45,000 miles ago, and ignorantly used Champion 3034 single plats. Since I've been a member of the forum I've been schooled about spark plugs. I wish I would have taken these 3034's out sooner. The Jeep performs better in every single way, especially idle...Here is what I am confused about, and my question: Why the hell does Champion spec 3034 single plats for our vehicles (WJ 4.0's with DIS ignition)???

Doesn't really matter if they are NGK or Champion, as long as they are copper! The 4.0 and the non-HO 4.7 do not like platinum. Parts stores list them as OEM because they are more expensive and sound like an "upgrade".

yes, the NGK is what is listed on the decal. Purchased from Rock Auto

Most people dont care much about there vehicle and just listen to what a parts store clerk tells them is OK
There lazy and thats the easy way !! This is the growing trend here in the US ......

DIS and fancy plugs sometimes don't match because one of the plugs is always firing backwards.


There is nothing different ignition wise that I could find between the HO and non-HO other than plugs. (Most likely for heat dissipation)

My non HO has has autolite double platinums. For 5 years and 35,000 miles.

parts clerks are terrible. had a car that required iridium (evo x) and had to argue with the guy for 5 mins that platinum was not okay.....

To many people go to auto parts stores and put they're trust in the people behind the counter. Not realizing the extreme incompetence.

three of the old plugs wore down to 0.040 and the other three were at 0.050.....after 45,000 miles...

Copper is the best conductor for spark plugs and they tend to wear out faster than other plugs with harder metal. Copper plugs are also less expensive so replacing them more often is okay.

The FSM says avg gap increase of .001 per 2k mi.
I wouldn't concern myself with .040-.050
IIRC OE gap is .35 ????


FWIW I did a 10k test with using MMO (as there was question around about the effects of MMO and fouling plugs or temp variances )and here are my plugs @ that 10k mi mark
