Odd grinding/whining

All right so last week I decided to change a leaking pinion seal on the front axle. Shortly after while driving to Michigan from New York it developed a whining grinding noise around 60 mph and gets louder with speed but disappears when I left off the accelerator. Now it's noticeable in reverse and stopping as well. The reversing doesn't bother me as much since my tires are rubbing in reverse anyways. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did everything by the manual when changing the seal.
