no start, gauges go crazy

my 2004 4.0 grand cherokee wouldnt start today, no noise, just the gauges going crazy and a soft clicking sound from behind the dash. I removed both battery cables and cleaned em off a bit, put em back on and it started right up.
now im kind of afraid to drive it any where and shut it off in case it wont start again. any help would be appreciated. i've never had any vehicle act like this before even with a bad battery.
Thanks

Yep, either bad battery, connections or both. Sounds like it is just the connections. Jeeps are REALLY tempermental about clean tight connections, both battery and grounds.
