Alright I have not had reverse lights for a couple months now and it sucks backing up in the woods at night due to I have all my windows tinted. I have a 2002 4.7 with Selc-Trac. I have read some info about an internal switch in the trans but wanted someone who has had experience or knows for sure. They have new bulbs that do work. The lights have intermittently worked a handful of times.
The part you are talking about is the TRS cam plate it controls the backup lights turning on and off and you will have to remove the valve body to get to it. There is a updated plate that you can install.
I'm not sure. I'd probably say no. Most stuff changed on the WJ from the XJ. I know for the WJ it also has an updated plate and pack they want to use now.
I had to change out my solenoid and TRS Cam plate about 6 or so months ago it's not to bad of a job and will cost ya about 400 to do it properly. I also did the trans go shift kit since I was already in there. You can contact Kolak and he will get you a good price on a new OEM setup.
Cool thanks for the help. Just looked at a thread where someone did this shift kit. Looks pretty simple. I should have done all this when I changed the trans filters and fluid.
Just make sure you do the correct torque sequence the putting it back in and also you may have to do the quick learn procedure. But other then that it's a pretty straight forward thing. Good luck..
I completed this repair in March 2016 and posted it under the 'What did you do to your WJ today' thread:
"Finally got the 'no reverse/back-up lights' issue fixed by changing out the TRS/solenoid pack on the valve body in the transmission.
I made sure this part swap was the last resort by checking the entire reverse circuit following the wiring diagrams and using a power probe IV to check continuity & apply power when necessary at all the junctions and cable connectors. Completed in-depth checks using a Snap On MODIS Ultra Integrated platform at the local community college auto technical campus. No codes were found and used it to run detailed transmission tests with the engine off and on. It's a real cool $35k diagnostic tool!"
Hope this helps you determine & resolve your issue.
