Need Rear Bumper 99 Ltd WJ

I was out offroading not to long ago. When I decided to go thorough some mud. I got stuck and had to reverse. Upon doing so I must have hit something in the mud or some where along the line. I now have an annoying hole. I went to the local body shop they said it would cost 550 to fix. Which I thought was crazy. I know that the bumper is just one big plastic piece but still. Then the guys said it had something to do with the paint because it is hard to find my color. Which I can kind off understand because the color (Bright Platinum Metallic) was only available in the 99 year. Still it only a 99 its not that old!Plus did any zj's have this color? I did some digging and found a bumper for 200-250 new. I could install it no problem just need someone to paint it. Anyone have an idea how much painting it should cost approx? Is 200-250 a good price for a rear bumper?

IMO, 550 is actually not that bad if they're going to get a new bumper, paint it to match, and put it on for you. That's actually a pretty good price. Yes, you can get one of those new bumpers for 200 - 250, but you'll likely spend more than 300 painting it unless you do it yourself out of a rattle can, which isn't likely to match well. If you're set on the stock replacement, that shop quoted you a reasonable price. If I were you, I'd be looking at a steel bumper instead.

You could spend that money on a new metal front bumper so that this wont happen again.

Doh! I guess i'm too tired to read the correct thing. I would absolutely upgrade to the metal bumper while you can. Ive made the mistake of buying 2 new OEM front bumpers.

In that case, no bumper, and mount a hi lift where the bumper used to be

Protofab is coming out with a plate style soon. And possibly a tube style if there's enough interest.

So let's say the mud you got caught in was in the mall parking lot. And when you backed up, you hit a shopping car that left that hole. Now, under my insurance that's a ZERO deductible. Call your insurance, BE HONEST, tell them what really happened and see if they cover it. I had a neon back into the front of my car, cost me nothing since I was on private property.

No they wont affect your towing...well not really.

With the steel bumper you will probably want 3/4" coil spacers to compensate for the extra weight. If you tow a lot you may even want to get helper air bags if you tow something with a moderate amount of tongue weight...

Live with the hole for now as there's a couple of new options coming out, it would be pretty stupid to spend $550 on the same bumper that you've already destroyed once, plus with the steel bumper you also get the option to carry the spare tire on the back.
