The carrier is lookin good man. I do, however, have a small bit of advice that come from the experience from my first tire carrier build on my TJ...

The upright for the tire mount NEEDS to be braced. The best way would be like this

Even if it has great weld penetration, the stress of that tire hanging on that single upright will eventually crack the welds and cause it to fail.

It's a Jeep, it's not supposed to work right all the time.

yes it was. the tire was a 35, and I started seeing stress fractures on the welds closest to the body. i changed my design to tuck the tire closer to the body by doing this:

and the tire rested on these 2 small standoffs to distribute the weight

sorry for the hijack, i would just hate to see a "my tire carrier broke" thread

can you post a pic of the rear? (straight on view) I'm making a carrier but might have it only go 1/2 across.

I really like your design! Very well thought out. I'd suggest turnin' the heat up on your welder a bit. It'll help burn it in a little and not be so pronounced (less grinding). Looks great though! Keep it up!

Thanks for the compliment, im clearly still a noob with welding, especially working with the different settings , ill just be happy if it all stays together... I wish I had someone watching and giving me tips throughout. Might need to buy my own and get balls deep in practicing ha.

Ill get a picture for you in the morning straight on. Why do you want to only go halfway? Steel cost would only be like 20$ cheaper. I still plan on asking a jerry can for dirt bike fuel and placement four skis and snowboards.
On a side note I plan to only have fuel in it on a trip, my teacher was telling me how a friend of his had been rearended and the tanks blew up and killed him. Sad story.
Jerry can mount will be perfect to relocate the license plate n light

i want my spare as far left as possible so i still have over-the-shoulder view out the rear. that would leave a lot of empty space. that's kinda why a wanted to see what it looked like. i think protofab uses 1/2 length.

who knows, maybe i'll keep it full length and add mounts for a jerry can and co2 tank.

BTW: are you using a lockout pin?
