My Jeep's Become an Oil Guzzler
My Jeep has begun to swallow oil. I'd say about every 4 months it burns/leaks 6 quarts. However, I haven't noticed any leak spots anywhere. Is this normal for a 10 year old JGC? If not, any suggestions on how to slow its HUNGER!?!?

Have you recently switched to synthetic?
Also, gauge it on mileage, its more comparable. I'd say mine does about 1 qt every 2000 miles, so I don't know where you stand that way.

Hows your PCV?
If its stuck open it will increase oil consumption.

I notice you haven't specified what engine you have?
Start looking for the obvious, get underneath it and see if its running or dribbling along the chassis, get a good look around the engine with an inspection lamp, Get a bit of card and leave it under the car at night when its parked up. If you rev it, is it smokey and if so, is it bluey/white?
All things to help clear up your mystery....

My engine is the 4.7 H.O.
I have recently switched to Quaker State Synthetic High Mileage. From what I'm seeing in these forums, a lot of you use Mobil 1. I might have to try that.
No blue smoke. No drips. Haven't seen wetness anywhere, but it's totally possible I'm missing it.
I know I need to replace my TPS. Maybe the high revving at startup and uneven idling is burning it up?
Even more likely, maybe I have a black hole inside my motor.

I wasn't actually going to suggest Mobil 1, as much I was going to suggest changing back to either conventional or a blend oil. I personally noticed that my WJ went through oil a ton faster when I ran synthetic than when I ran conventional.

If the motor was/is sludged up switching to a better quality oil with more aggressive cleaning will thin the oil and cause consumption untill things get cleaned out.

I agree with 86cj74.2L...it's possible the PO didn't maintain it well so there is a build-up of sludge. Putting in a decent quality oil with better cleaning agents will help clean out the sludge that may have been blocking potential leaks. Try running the new oil for 5-10k miles and if it doesn't get better switch back to conventional oil.
Remember the 2002-2003 H.O. engines use 10w-30.

Interesting takes on all of it. I'll look around the valve cover gaskets when I get home. Thanks.

As an example I bought a 78 Plymouth trailduster
Back in the late 80's. It had crapy oil pressure with 80,000 on the clock.
My brother and I pulled the motor, flipped it upside down and put new rod and mains and oil pump in it. Oil pan was sludged bad, couldn't see the head bolts from all the sludge in the head.
Put some high detergent citco oil in and drove it. At the end of 2 weeks the oil pressure light came on at idle and gauge showed 0psi. Figuring the oil pump failed we got another and went back to the hobby shop on base and proceeded to change it. When we drained the oil it came out like piss water. (ever see a cow taking a leak?) one of the old guys there helping made the smart comment about how we should change out oil more then once every 2 years.
Put fresh oil in and it was fine. Returned the oil pump.

check your coolant...what color is it? still nice and pink/red? if its turning brown, time to flush that, and look into HG replacement.
