my home made snorkel V2

i know its crazy ghetto built but it works and in the end thats all that matters and i actually gained .5 MPG causes its 4" of ram air soo all parts avalible at your local home depot (except the filter) doesnt wistle in the wind at all, and i get tons of stares from people haha

the bolts in the hood is from snokel V1 were it was only a 3 inch and i used a vent roofing rubber gasket to stop it from bouncing around, now the new one is 4 inch, i didnt need it, and just left the bolts in

ok the part that sticks out the hood is a a peice of 4" *drainage pipe * that drops below the hood into a catch basin that is made for rain , and some how a cold air filter drops PERFECTLY in, from that i RTV sealed it in, at the bottom of the basin i drilled a tiny, tiny hole incase its raining out so it doenst fill with water, then when i go to the trails i just throw some tape on it
out the back is regular 3" PVC pipe and connects to the rest of the stock intake the only real modification you have to make is A, a 4" hole in your hood (we did it with a big wood bit on a drill used to make holes for pipes in houses) ( i know its retarded but it worked just had to make sure i lubercated the bit as i did it cause when it catches in the metal it can easily make the drill bust your wrist) and B relocate the PCV line (im going to make the line prettier so lay off and yes part of it is an old spark plug boot) but the whole thing only cost $50 and is tested as i have gotten water over the hood so let me know what you think





wish i made that inner pipe just a lil longer and i RTV'ed this joint when i put it back together

i need a new filter this one is getting a bit ugly from the snow and rain


please dont rag on this, i made it from what ever i had inthe garage i will make it better soon

this is the veiw from the driver seat, you could cut the 4" pipe down so its out of the way and have a longer one for the trails

should have put it on the passenger side, it obstructs your view some...
but other than that is is OK

That is nothing short of AMAZING! I don't know if I could cut a hole in my hood, but my hat is off to you.

If you drive fast enough, you'd get Ram Air! Some non-functional hood vents would set it off nicely!

Do you have to take it apart when you want to look under the hood?

to open the hood all i have to do is take off the elbow, and when im in the trails i have a plastic drainage cover and i just turn the elbow around (acutally removed in this pic cause i had the hood open just before i took it)
and yes it does great in water/mud holes you can see how far the water acutally splashed up

Thanks man, I gently hydrolocked my ZJ and was hunting for ideas on here and was thinking I would run the air intake into where the air comes in for the heater/vents but I didn't want to make it noisy in the cab. Here's my idea thanks to you.

I could do the same thing using the factory airbox but run the intake out the grill instead of the hood. I could have the snorkel part removable since I generally avoid deep holes but sometimes you just have to go for it to venture on down the trail. It could be made nice and tidy looking when the snorkel is not on there. I plan to also plug the tiny drain holes in the airbox since they have no one way valves (stupid). I'll put a larger drain in there with a valve like what my quad has.

Thanks for posting your custom snorkel that's just awesome!

Creative! I like it, a lot cheaper than the real thing, and if it works hey it's worth it. Don't have to look pretty.

Did you ever look into that Hummer snorkel top that was posted in your V1 thread? I think it would look awesome on your rig and solve the rainwater issue.

I saw you at Joketon all the time last semester and last night debated putting a note on your car saying 'Let's go wheeling" but it was raining, and I didn't want it to smear.

Nevertheless, I'm at Oakton MW 6-8pm, TTr 8-10pm.

I've got a stock WJ that's usually covered in mud.
