Made more room in the cargo area

I know there was a thread recently about what to do with the wheel well area since most tires over 31" won't fit in there. After I got home from work I decided to try something. I had a 12" MTX woofer that was in a box taking up valuable space, and I almost took it out. Then it dawned on me that I could probably mount it in the wheel well, I used some hard foam, anchors, and big screws to mount it to the bottom of the cargo lid. It's very secure and I was worried that since that particular speaker wasn't a free air speaker, that it wouldn't sound good. Well the weight of the woofer pulls the lid down enough to make it almost sealed. It actually sounds better then it did in the box it was in. Anyway, i just finished it up and thought I would share.

I'm not a "thumper" like I've said in other posts but I do like to add a little bass to my metal. I'm not trying to win any competitions either, so this setup is great for me, I've still got to clean up some of the wiring, so over look the mess.

I wonder if adding some type of seal would make it sound even better?

**** i would put some spray on bed liner in there, maybe a sack of the filling using in speaker boxes, and put a little seal around the edge...for 30 or 40 bucks youd have a pretty sick speaker box.

When I get my tire outa there I would like to put a woffer in there too...

This summer I think I am just going to take a paycheck and get that WJ rear bumper w/tire carrier... I can't remeber where it's from right now...

Ryan1341's bumper? Something like Custom 4x4 Fabricators or along those lines...

might want to get some window weather stripping and put it in the edge of the lid. will give it a nice seal.

I though about that for a while at work last night. Though I think I'll make a frame out of MDF and throw down some fiberglass. I'm an SPL type of guy.
