Lightly smoking tail lights

I'm looking to tint the tail lights on my 2004 Jeep grand cherokee. I've seen so many people black them out with vht night shades and I think they more often than not look pretty ghetto. I'm looking to go for a more oem-ish look. Lightly smoked. I've seen a few well executed examples out there. Have any of you lightly smoked your tail lights and had good results? I'd like to see some pics and how you did them. It seems that with even just a single coat of the night shades they come out pretty dark.

Yeah, i checked out that thread.... Still way too dark. I like the idea of doing plasti dip. At least I can reverse it if it looks like crap. It also seems much lighter so I can progressively make it darker in layers to get the right effect. Anyone on here have any experience with the Plastidip smoke? If so I'd love to see some pics.

This is with 3 light coats of vht nightshade, it can be done lightly. I dont have a picture of them on the jeep cause it was raining when I did this, painted them on my patio, stuck them in the oven for about 10 minutes and they came out great. I masked off the reverse light, I know some people think its stupid but I live in a dark area and I like being able to see when Im backing up lol.

Looks good..... I say that mainly because they are almost identical to how I did mine....similar level of tint and masked off reverse light!

OP.Ignore the pics in my thread...they are not as dark as they look there....more like NOVAXJs.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got yourself an electrical problem!

Smoked plasti dip and a clear plasti dip top coat would work great. I saw a thread on it not too long ago

After I put LED's in my reverse housings, they are very much brighter. That and my license plate bulbs are very bright white, now.
