Wj Kolak 3" Lift

i have been wanting a a lift for some time now. I contacted Nick from Kolak performance via email and he was able to assist me with what i needed. I have no previous knowledge of jeeps or lifts for that matter. I life in NYC and the lift is more for cosmetic reasons but if i go fishing and see a trail or my jeep needs to overcome a something i want it to handle it. Nick suggested Old Man Emu Heave Duty springs for a 3" lift some billstein 5100 shocks, a JKS front adjustable track bar. I AM PUMPED!!!!!! now heres the question. I really would like to become a little more handy and knowledgable about my jeep instead of having to pay for everything to get done all the time. Do you think it is a good idea if i try to install this myself? If so, are there any tutorials or steps? I am so excited and i am glad i finally went through with this. CANT WAIT!

That's the same set-up I went with. I love it and doing it yourself isn't too big of a pain. I have a write-up of the install in my build thread if you decided you do want to tackle it yourself:

I went with 245/75R16 Duratracs. I was stuck between that size and the 265/75's but decided the next size up was going to be too big. 245/75R16 on stock rims does not rub at all with the OME HD coils. I added 1.5" wheel spacers and found I needed to trim an inch or so off the lower portion of the front fascia because it rubbed at full lock in reverse.

You should be able to run 31's with the 3" lift.

I would also suggest to replace your stock spring isolators as they're probably shot by now.

Check Rockauto.com for them or ask Kolak.

Here's another how-to. Granted it was using a 2" spring set, but the install will be exactly the same. I didn't do the JKS track bar at the time, did it later so I don't have instructions on that part of the install. It's pretty easy. Lots of pics for you as well.

The only concern is rust. I bought a car from upstate NY and every fastener was horribly rusted, every DIY came with frustration and replacing fasteners.

Yeap. Happened to me after placing my order in early Feb. There may be a work around however, but get an ETA if time is a concern. I will give my full impressions when the rear shocks arrive.
