Just bought a WJ with a couple of issues.

So after searching for quite a while I finally found a wj that was exactly what I wanted. I looked at a few 4.0 and 4.7s and almost bought a 4.0 but decided to hold out alittle longer bc I really wanted the 8cylinder. Anyway i finally found one and I jumped on it. 2001 GC limited black on black,130k miles with a strong motor and tranny. Interior is near mint condition and I got it for $2300. When I looked at the car the owner told me none of the windows rolled down so immediately I knew (and later confirmed) it was the broken ground wire. It also had the infamous blend door issue but it did not concern me and helped me to knock down the price $1k.

Anyway on the test drive it drove great, the only issues was the SKIS light stayed illuminated. All he had was one key for it and it did not have the fob with it (I assumed it was a spare key and this was the reason for the light staying on). I figured once I got the car back home I can do some reaseach on here and figure out what it was and fix it quick but all the threads I come across seem to point in the same direction as only the dealer has the scan tool to test the issue. I hate the stealerships so is there anything else I can do? Do I have to worry about the car randomly shutting off when I drive?

Thanks John

I also know this thread is worthles wihtout pics so I will get some up later tonight.

It still runs, even with the SKIS light on? Thats strange. Usually it will shut down within 2-3 seconds. Does it have some sort of aftermarket remote starter installed that you dont know about?

Nope nothing. I haven't really got my hands dirty yet but it didn't appear to have any factory alarm and like I said all it had came with was the single key.

Are you completely sure its the SKIS light? Because it should never let the engine run with that light illuminated.

Yup, The circle with the key around it. It actually illuminates as I drive but then stays on but doesnt effect anything

Thats just weird...

What my dealer repair manual says is this

IF THE BULB STAYS SOLID AFTER IGNITION:

1. SKIS system malfunction/ fault detected.
2. SKIS system inoperative.

Thats all I can tell you, how it says to fix it is to hook it up to a DRB scan tool. Maybe you should try the key dance and see if any code pops up. Key dance: Turning the key from the OFF position to the ACC position. On,off,on,off,on. Then the odometer will read "done" and then show codes. If no codes are present, it will just go back to normal. My guess is the SKIS is just inoperative. Some fuse or relay is blown...or something..

See if you can get any codes, if you can't I'll read more into the manual and see what can be replaced.
