Dash lights...

I do not see this mentioned anywhere in the thread but I would imagine the dash lights are different for the different t-cases. That is to say there are no 2wd/part/full lights on a 247 equipped jeep, or 4h/4lo list on a 242 equipped jeep.

Has anyone read a post that explains how to properly rig the dash lights?

No lights on a 247, only "PART-TIME" is displayed when a 242 is in either part time mode, no light for 2wd, N, or 4hi full time.

Lights are in the dash, only a short harness is needed to go from the 242 to a connector above the transmission. This was covered in one of these swap threads.....

Hmmm must be different in the WJ. In my 242 equipped XJ there is a light for part (amber letters) and for full time (green letters). I will try searching the other swap threads...thanks.

FWIW I think that the 242HD was also available on the 2001's.

I just got my 2001 242 tcase and it is indeed an HD model.

Ok so I want to clarify this, as this thread has confused me a bit. I have a 2000 V8 247, and want to swap to the 242HD. ALL Im going to need is the 242HD and the rear DS? EVERYTHING else is going to bolt right up? Front drive shaft, shifter cable etc. Will I have to switch things from the 247 to the 242 for things to work? What is all the talk of switching yokes? Can someone explain that?? I suspect my 247 is on the way out and am going to eventually do this swap, and just want everything clarified before I do so.

You have to switch yolks if you have a cv style front drive shaft.

I believe the 242 came with only the u joint yoke. And 247 came with either a cv yoke or a u joint yoke

The u joint yoke ( double cardon style front drive shaft) is the more desirable front shaft to use. Especially if you jeep is lifted

Ok so I would either have to swap the yoke on the front DS or swap the front DS to the ujoint style? The rear would be plug and play i assume along with everything else? Any compatability issues with the shifter or shifter cable?

First post

"If you have a 1999-2001 WJ, you might have a CV joint at the transfer case instead of a u-joint. In this case you will need to also find a donor shaft out of a 02+ V8 Grand Cherokee, or swap your old output to the new transfer case. The u-joint setup is much better and highly recommended however."

I don't know what you have, as far as tcase yokes and drive shafts. So can't comment on what you need to swap if any thing.

Also in the first post it has a photo of the shift cable bracket and instructions on what you need to do with it.
Move it from the top to the bottom hole on the bracket.

This is wrong. The 242 could have came with a CV driveshaft

btw, instead of posting 3 times in a row, you can edit and add to your first post

What is your build date? Obviously you have a late 2001.

Yeah I read that, it was just a little confusing. That particular exerpt is not specific at all, it doesnt say if its talking about the rear or the front driveshaft. As for my WJ, the front DS has no u joints from what I can see, but the rear does. So as I understand it, I will obviously need the rear DS and either get the front from the same vehicle or swap over the part that connects my DS to the new tcase?
