The 242HD is stronger than the 231. The standard 242 is not as strong as the 231. wjjeeps.com has the specs.

I need some help guys. I just put my 242j into my 03 v8 grand and everything went well and bolted right up except for the linkage. I replaced the shifter bezel, moved the linkage down to the lower hole in the bracket just as all the write ups say. After all is said and done the shift bezel and linkage do not line up. Please help!

There is an adjustment at the shift assembly that may need adjusting to make the shifter and the 242 line up.

Did you change the linkage arm on the TC or swap it?

Did the 242 replacement a couple of months ago. I was testing it last night and I find the motor revs higher in full time 4. At 60 mph, in 2 wheel it revs at 1600, in 4 full time it revs at 2000. Is this normal? 2004 grand overland, V8HO, 242. 265/65/17.

in quadradrive/full time 4wd its around 2000, but at 70mph.. (with the 545rfe trans software) would make sense since it now has to drive twice as many wheels as 2wd.. but thats just a guess

Hello, I have a 2000 G.C. Laredo 4.7 L engine Quadra Drive. I bought my 242u tc today with the rear drive shaft. The question I have is my front drive shaft. What I have read is I probable have the CV front drive shaft. How do I make it into having u joints? Or is it just my rear drive shaft is supposed to be u joints? I have u joints on the rear drive shaft now. But I know that will not be going back in after I change the tc. Any help would be appreciated.

a front driveshaft from a 2004 v8 wj is a double cardan which is u joints will work so if you could get your hands on one from a doner then your golden. or you can get a custom one but a stock one will be the cheapest.

Can I use my front drive shaft for now? And then find a drive shaft with u joints in it later? In the orignal post I thought he used his orignal front drive shaft. I was just wondering? The jeep is stock.

Finally got my 242hd put in. There was a small adjustment to be made on the cable. I also had a zj front driveshaft rebuilt as it was a little longer than the wj one and bolted right up. I also installed the IRO 242HD sye and am having a custom rear shaft being made. I have a 242hd front and rear shaft and yoke to match if anyone is in need of them.

Looks good. I just installed the same HnT SYE from Iron Rock when I had the engine and trans out of the jeep. Did you pull the shaft out if the case or did you hack and tap it inside of the Jeep?
