Mounts to the transmission, uses same 6 bolts.

I'm only at 5" with the 242HD and had vibes with a single carden shaft, they're now fixed with a double carden shaft but keep in mind the 242HD is another 2" longer, so your drive shaft is 2" shorter.

Thats the plug for the 4wd light to come up on the dash...I didn't bother doing it on mine, you would need to buy the plug and then trace the propper wires to the transmission wire harness...more trouble thats its worth IMO. Doesn't do anything put activate the light on the dash.

what's the difference between the regular 242 and the 242HD?

in my 01' 4.7 np247, going to the 242HD, will the rear DS need to be longer or shorter?

which unit is longer, the 247 or the 242HD?

the 242HD has a much longer tailcone requiring a shorter driveshaft. Do yourself a favor and get the matching driveshaft, as the slip yokes are a different spline count also.

Quick question about this , I am doing either the 242 or 231 swap soon . I have the 4.7 limited but I will do a SYE kit , which TC is better for this . I dont need full time 4wd , and would anyone have any idea on the length Ds I would need with the 4in Iro LA kit ? Also is the 231 just a bolt in also ?

I think I'm going to be doing this swap as I've found great prices, and the swap would be cheaper than buying a new front driveshaft. Anyways...

If I get a 242HD from a 2002, the rear driveshaft HAS to be from a 2002 or 2003 or will a ds from a 2000 work?

Also, does the front driveshaft need to be from a 02-03 as well? Will it still be the same length as the 247 shaft?

The rear driveshaft needs to be front a WJ with a 242HD in it since the tail cone is longer on the 242HD. The driveshaft should be shorter than your stock one.

If you can't find one, you can always have a driveline shop cut yours down to length and balance it.

The front driveshaft is the same length.

Thank you.

One last question. My current front shaft uses cv type joints rather than u-joints. Will I need to get new yokes if I purchase a u-joint type front shaft? Pretty basic questions I'm sure, but I'm not well versed on 4x4s yet.

242HD is Meant to handle the 4.7 Power.

Im sure you could use a Normal 242 but more of chance of tearing it up than the 242HD

The REAR DS HAS TO be from an HD. In addition to the shorter length, it also has 32 splines instead of 27.

The front is the same length.

Still wont work. You're forgetting the HD rear DS has 32 input splines VS 27.
